2nd of 3-match ODI series

Ireland and South Africa will try again on Tuesday after rain brought an early end to the first one-day international (ODI) between the two nations in Dublin on Sunday.

South Africa embarked on their maiden, historic, full white-ball tour of the country last week following a successful trip to the West Indies where they claimed a double series win (2-0 in Tests and 3-2 in T20I).

“This win can only boost our confidence as a team, we have not won many series away from home. We believe that we can adapt to any conditions," said South Africa captain Temba Bavuma following his country's successful trip to the Caribbean.

“I believe things are gelling well. We had to come through every day with our skill and the guys have put their hands up. We have made some big strides and we just have to keep winning those small moments," Bavuma added.

Bavuma won the toss and asked the home side to bat first in Dublin on Sunday. Half-centuries from William Porterfield and Andy Balbirnie helped Ireland to 195 for four in 40.2 overs before rain forced an early end to the encounter. As a result, both sides picked up five points in the World Series competition.

Quinton de Kock, who was South Africa's best player in the West Indies, was rested for the opening match but is likely to make a return on Tuesday while Anrich Nortje missed out through injury.

South African-born Curtis Campher was a surprise omission for Ireland but will be raring to go if called upon for the second ODI.
