2024-25 NBA Regular Season
Charlotte Hornets v Cleveland Cavaliers
Spectrum Center
Charlotte, North Carolina
Saturday 8 March 2025
Tip-off at 02:00
On Saturday morning, the Charlotte Hornets will face off against the Cleveland Cavaliers in a scheduled game to be played at the Spectrum Center.
The season has begun differently for these two Eastern Conference teams; Cleveland leads with an impressive 52-10 record, whereas Charlotte sits at 14th place with a 14-47 record.
It’s a time to celebrate for the Cavs as they became the first side to book a spot in the NBA play-offs following their 112-107 victory against Miami Heat on Wednesday. As a result, they’ll be going into this one with high morale.
"It took a collective effort as a group but we've got to be better," said Donovan Mitchell, who top scored for the Cavaliers with 26 points.
As for Charlotte, they’ll be looking to end their three-game home skid, and they’re coming off the back of a 110-125 loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday.
Miles Bridges was a standout performer for the Hornets, scoring 23 points in the loss to the Timberwolves. Despite turning out for the team, Bridges appears to believe they are the worst in the league this season.
Following the Hornets getting swept in the season series by the Wizards, Bridges said: “They are supposed to be the worst team in the league and they beat us four times. So what does that make us?”
The upcoming game is expected to be challenging, with the Cavaliers aiming to secure their second NBA Championship since their victory in 2016. They are well-positioned to clinch the Eastern Conference title this year, which would secure them a top-seed in the playoffs.
Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson has hinted that the team will begin to prepare early for the playoffs.
"There's almost, like, right now, a sense of urgency," Atkinson said.
"We're not going to wait until three games before the playoffs and say, 'Oh, man, now we've gotta really focus.' Our playoff focus starts now. Our playoff prep starts now, and I think that keeps guys motivated, too."
