2024/25 Betway Premiership
Matchday 25
Chippa United v Kaizer Chiefs
Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium
Gqeberha, South Africa
Saturday, 19 April 2025
Kick-off is at 17h30
Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to keep the feel-good factor going when they travel to Gqeberha for a
Betway Premiership clash with Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, April 19.
The Glamour Boys caused a major upset as they beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals on April 13 to book a date with arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Ke Yona decider.
The victory in Pretoria halted a four-match winless streak for Nasreddine Nabi's side which left them well off the pace in the race for CAF football and barely hanging on to eighth place.
A 1-1 draw with TS Galaxy in the league on April 5 kept Amakhosi one point clear of the Chilli Boys and seven behind Sekhukhune United, who occupy the final African berth with game in hand.
Chippa have yet to beat Chiefs in two attempts this season, losing 1-0 in the reverse fixture on December 29 before being dumped out of the Nedbank Cup following a 3-0 defeat on February 15.
The Eastern Cape outfit are unbeaten in their last three top-flight outings, however, with a 0-0 draw against Golden Arrows on April 5 following on from back-to-back wins over Polokwane City and AmaZulu.
Thabo September's side maintained the one-point gap to Abafana Bes'thende in ninth position and they crucially have two games in hand on the Soweto giants.
September is hoping his players can hold their nerve in the run-in to the season which sees them face some tough teams, including Sundowns and Stellenbosch.
"We hope the robot turns green for us in this traffic to go past," he said. "We will have a tough run... we still have to play Chiefs, we must go to SuperSport [United], Marumo [Gallants] and Stellenbosch away, so it'll be a tough run but we've got a good squad.
"We have to believe. The way it is tight, some teams might crack under pressure and hopefully we don't crack."
The cup win has eased the pressure on Nabi somewhat and he insists he needs more time to build a competitive squad capable of challenging for silverware, with his debut campaign at Naturena having been rocky.
"You're asking if I'll stay next season, I have to tell you that my contract is for two seasons, but it's not me who decides, for me, I have a process," the Tunisian said.
"The difference between me and how other people think is that they are thinking of results, and I'm thinking of process. If we think like that, we are not speaking the same language; one is speaking French and the other is speaking English.
"As I have said to you, I have a process, and that process is based on how we play, how we give chances to the DDC players. We're talking about Mduduzi Tshabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi and Wandile Duba."
