The Western Conference Memphis Grizzlies will play host to the East’s high-flying Cleveland Cavaliers at the FedExForum on Saturday morning, 15 March.
Grizzlies shooting guard Cam Spencer may be described as a “rookie” in the game at the moment, but he’s received major support for turning out for the team recently from his colleague Desmond Bane.
"Smart player, good free-throw shooter," Bane said. "I think that's the biggest key down the stretch . . . I have the utmost confidence in him. He's a winner. I knew he would be ready for this moment, and he was."
Bane himself is on a great run, with the Grizzlies capitalising against a shorthanded Dallas Mavericks.
Bane made history with a remarkable performance, becoming the first guard in
NBA history to achieve a unique statistical milestone, posting 27 points, a career-high 16 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks in a single game.
The Grizzlies are just two games out of second place in the Western Conference and are four games above the top play-in spot. “Our mentality has got to shift,” Bane said on Memphis’ post-game telecast.
“We’re playing for something and continuing to get better and sticking together. Ever since I’ve been here, we’ve been a resilient group.”
Whether it’s on the basketball court or off it, Cavs’ Jarret Allen is dedicated to being a unique individual. A crucial member of the team, Allen is one of the Cavs’ most important players, but he’s had to adjust to his new role following De’Andre Hunter’s midseason arrival.
“It’s not really difficult for me,” Allen said following Friday’s 118-117 come-from-behind win over the rebuilding Charlotte Hornets.
“I trust Kenny (Atkinson) wholeheartedly. Sometimes I wish I was out there. Sometimes I understand why I’m not. At the end of the day, it’s not my job to decide. It’s my job to do the best I can whenever my number is called.”
