2024/25 Serie A
Matchday 29
Genoa v Lecce
Luigi Ferraris Stadium
Genoa, Italy
Friday, 14 March 2025
Kick-off is at 21:45
Winless in their last three league matches, Genoa will be striving to bounce back to winning ways when they go up against relegation-threatened Lecce at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on Friday evening, 14 March.
Patrick Vieira’s side are placed 12
th in the league standings, with their previous
Serie A match ending in a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Cagliari, with Maxwel Cornet on song to rescue a point for the side.
It appears Vieira has somewhat improved matters for Genoa, as the team was previously fighting relegation but have now found themselves with a bit of breathing room at the moment in the middle of the league table.
Italian striker Mario Balotelli joined La Superba in the summer transfer window as a free agent, but things have not worked out for him as he’s played only six matches and hasn’t scored any goals.
Vieira downplayed the striker’s importance in the team the last time the side faced Lecce back in January, so it is doubtful he will feature in the return fixture.
“Mario is an important player, like Sabelli and Vogliacco, who were not introduced,” said the former midfielder at the time.
“We have other players on the bench. We are a team, and we are all important. I made this decision today; tomorrow, it may change. The club and the team are the most important things. If we understand this, we’ll be doing important things like today.”
Lecce on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back after losing 3-2 against AC Milan in a closely contested game in their last league encounter.
Coach Marco Giampolo was critical of his team about his team’s “failure”. “The analysis of the match is not difficult. In detail, you can do it well, there is great disappointment for having played a good hour of great football,” he said.
