What to know about the tournament
Established in 1960 as the Palm Springs Golf Classic, the tournament has been known as the CareerBuilder Challenge, Bob Hope Desert Classic, the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, and the Humana Challenge over the years.
The American Express came to the tournament in 2020 with a five-year deal to be the title sponsor and the event is played in mid-winter in the Coachella Valley as part of the tour's early season "West Coast Swing."
News
The American Express announced that it has received commitments from Xander Schauffele, Tony Finau and Rickie Fowler, along with 17-year-old Blades Brown, to play in the 66th annual tournament
The four joined a competitive 156-player field that also includes PGA Tour Player of the Year Scottie Scheffler and defending champion Nick Dunlap.
However, Schauffele announced his mysterious withdrawal from the 2025 edition and has since been replaced in the field by Philip Knowles.

The American Express field will be headlined by Dunlap, Scheffler and Finau at the PGA WEST’s Pete Dye Stadium Course and Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course.
Nick Taylor, who won the most recent tournament on the 2025 PGA Tour schedule, the Sony Open in Hawaii, will also tee off in La Quinta.
Past winners of The American Express set to compete include Jason Dufner (2016), Charley Hoffman (2007) and Si Woo Kim (2021).
