Betway Ambassador Mike de Kock has a busy weekend in two centres with runners at
Turffontein’s standside track on Saturday and
HWB Scottsville on Sunday. Here are his race comments:
Turffontein:
Race 1: “We tried
Great Notion with blinkers last time, she pulled hard, but managed a place to Pretty Precious. That was another fair run, she is well exposed now and we know she isn’t going to Broadway. She comes back down the straight again, she is consistent and has a chance, but not the type I can give winning confidence about.
DuPont Emerald was slow off the mark but ran on quite well on her debut recently. She actually ran better than expected and has improved in her work, so also has a chance of finishing in the money. I don’t really have a preference for any of the two.
Race 4: “I think
Spumante Dolce is a nice filly, she certainly has the pedigree to develop into a decent sort. She won her Maiden in a good manner, but this is a step up. She hasn’t drawn all that well and she races against colts. I want to see if she is up to the task before I enter her for a feature race like the Fillies Guineas. I am not sure, so we’re going into this contest with an open mind. I think the male runners against her are beatable.”
Race 5: “
Littlemarysunshine has dropped two points in ratings, she is capable and not out of it here.
Forgiveness is a nice filly, she missed a race due to rain recently and is not quite where I want her to be, but she is doing well. I’d include both fillies in exotics.”
Race 8: “
Beamonesque has had his niggles, he hasn’t been an easy horse to train. He’s had a couple of months off and then missed a race because of rain recently. But he is showing us good work at home. He’s had a few straightforward months in training and maybe he is growing out of his issues. He is quite fresh, I wouldn’t leave him out.”
Scottsville:
Race 3: “
Tyrconnell deserved his win over the course and distance last time, he is still in a good space and I particularly like his inside draw here. Let’s hope all goes well and he can follow up.”
Race 6: “
Grape Shot comes off a rest and she will need it a bit. She looks more effective around 1400m but has been disappointing and she will improve with this run under the belt.”
Race 7: “I expected more from
Mvelelo when he finished unplaced here last week, he is better than that. I am backing him up quick, but he pulled up very well and he looks in good shape. I am putting blinkers on and let’s see if he can improve and repeat his work at home.”

There is a lot to look forward to next week. There will be a R2-million TAB Tote carryover Pick 6 pool to the WSB Cape Met meeting at HWB Kenilworth next Saturday. A pool of R10-million is expected. The Quartet pool on Race 8, the WSB Cape Met, starts with R500,000 and is expected to reach R2-million. There will also be a R500,000 carryover to Jackpot Three and here, too, a R2-million pool is expected.
Ante-post betting is available on Betway on the all 10 races scheduled for Met day. You can also play on the tote via the Betway Tote portal, and have your betting tax refunded at month-end.
