Betway Premiership - Matchday 14

2024/25 Betway Premiership
Matchday 14

Kaizer Chiefs v Sekhukhune United
Moses Mabhida Stadium
Durban, South Africa
Sunday, 19 January 2025
Kick-off is at 15h30

Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to get their top-three challenge back on track when they host Sekhukhune United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday, January 19.

The Glamour Boys had an opportunity to briefly climb above Babina Noko in the Betway Premiership standings and put pressure on Polokwane City in the race for a CAF berth.

But Amakhosi once again failed to take their numerous chances as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against Golden Arrows on January 12 which left them in sixth place, level with Abafana Bes'thende on 18 points but behind them on goal difference.

Lehlohonolo Seema's side were in action later that same day and they beat SuperSport United 3-0 to leapfrog Rise And Shine into third position with a game in hand.

The Limpopo outfit are now unbeaten in their last five matches, winning four of those, and they trail Orlando Pirates by four points.

Nabi, who was sent off after the final whistle for remonstrating with the match official, admits it was another harsh lesson learnt by his players after they were made to pay for their wastefulness by Arrows.

"It's always the same issue when you don't convert your opportunities to score," Nabi told SuperSport. "You keep the opponent alive and when he gets the opportunity to score, he puts in his opportunities and then you have to run after the score.

"Today, it's an absolutely deceiving result and we're very aware we didn't do well today."

Chiefs won the corresponding fixture 2-1 last season and they drew 1-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium three months later to make it two games unbeaten against Sekhukhune, who did the league double over them in 2022-23.
