I Giallorossi fell to a 3-0 loss to crosstown rivals Lazio last time out. Defeat leaves them nine points adrift of top spot as they came up short in a big fixture once more.
“I think in the opening minutes, we had the right approach, but against a side like Lazio, it's difficult to recover if you gift them two goals," Roma head coach Paulo Fonseca told Sky Sport Italia in the aftermath.
“Lazio were comfortable after that and we never had the capability to break through their defensive line. They closed up well and it was tough to get back into it."
Spezia head into the fixture having put together a three-game unbeaten run in the league, which has pulled them five points clear of the relegation zone.
Aquilotti beat Napoli and Sampdoria before holding Torino to a 0-0 draw in Turin, despite playing the match with 10-men for over 80 minutes.
