Aston Villa’s survival battle sees them looking for a home win over Chelsea when the teams meet at Villa Park on Saturday 14 March 2020, kick-off at 19:30. The match is one of 10 spread from 14 to 16 March for the 30
th round of the
2019/20 Premier League season.
Villa have slumped in form of late, with their 4-0 reverse at the hands of Leicester City on Monday night representing a fifth straight defeat across all competitions. Manager Dean Smith will need to lift his men for the visit of the Blues.
“Disappointing is an understatement. We wanted a performance and a reaction after the (Carabao Cup) final and we felt that we would have a chance here tonight. We are getting punished massively for our mistakes at the moment,” said Smith.

Chelsea put in one of their more impressive performances of the season when they crushed Everton 4-0 at home this past weekend, with youngster Billy Gilmour producing another outstanding showing in midfield. Goals from Mason Mount, Olivier Giroud, Pedro and Willian secured Chelsea’s biggest home win of the season.
Manager Frank Lampard insists they need to keep fighting hard to finish in the top four: “It may look a small cushion from fifth now, but we have to fight to the end. It’s in our hands. I’m not going to say we’re favourites [for fourth] now. There’s a lot of work to be done. We have to fight the inconsistencies, get the points. It doesn’t feel to me like we’re favourites.”
In head-to-head stats, Villa and Chelsea have met in 154 previous matches. The Blues have claimed 63 wins compared to 57 for the Lions, while 34 games have been drawn.
When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at Stamford Bridge in December 2019, Chelsea claimed a 2-1 home win thanks to goals from Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount. Trezeguet scored Villa’s consolation.
