Max Verstappen will be keen to win the
Singapore Grand Prix for the first time in his career having finished second in the 2018 race.
Most recent race
The Red Bull Racing driver failed to secure a podium spot at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on 15 September, the most recent race in the 2024 Formula One World Championship season.
Verstappen started on the sixth grid and he went on to finish fifth which saw him collecting 10 points after a competitive race staged in Baku.
Formula One title ambitions
The three-time Dutch Sportsman of the Year remains at the top of the World Drivers' Championship standings having collected 313 points.
Verstappen is now 59 points ahead of second-placed Lando Norris of McLaren and all eyes will be on the two drivers at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Why Verstappen could win the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix
The reigning Formula One world champion finished second and third in this race in 2018 and 2019 respectively
Verstappen will be determined to end his current seven-race winning run by winning the Singapore Grand Prix and getting his title defence back on track.
What did he say?
“My wheels were literally coming off the ground. Then of course you lose contact patch with the tarmac which you don’t want. That then caused me to slide a lot more, overheat the tyres more and there was no way to drive around it so the pace was just a bit all over the place," Verstappen said after finishing fifth at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
“I had to box and then it was just a bit unfortunate I got stuck behind Alex and Lando. I was in that fight, George passed me, and then we actually had good pace, the two of us. We were catching the leaders but then as soon as I got close to George again within that window where you have the dirty air, because of the jumping that I’m dealing with I’m sliding already quite a bit.
“And then when I get close to him I’m sliding even more and that just tipped it over the edge where it becomes quite uncontrollable towards the end of the race, which was very difficult again.”
