Kick-off is at 18h00

South Africa will go head to head with Uganda in the 2025 AFCON qualifier at the Orlando Stadium on 6 September.

Current Form

Bafana Bafana emerged as 1-0 winners over Eswatini at home in their last international match which was played on 2 July at the 2024 COSAFA Cup.

South Africa are unbeaten in their last 13 matches across all competitions having recorded six wins and seven draws including the 2023 AFCON semi-final clash against Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Uganda succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Algeria at home in their last game which the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier played on 10 June.

The defeat ended the Cranes' two-match unbeaten run across all competitions having registered one victory and one draw which came against Ghana.

Team News

South Africa will be without the services of their captain Ronwen Williams who is injured, while star attacker Percy Tau has been excluded from coach Hugo Broos' squad.

Meanwhile, Uganda coach Paul Put confirmed that defenders Kenneth Semakula and Halidi Lwaliwa will not be available for the game against South Africa due to Visa issues.

Quotes

“The situation at (Tau’s club) Al Ahly, for the moment, is unclear. There are a lot of rumours, such as he’s going to leave; there’s a problem with the transfer fee; he doesn’t want to play there anymore,” Broos said as he explained Tau's omission.

“Since the beginning of August, he just played 17 minutes, and in all the other games, he was not even on the substitutes bench. “His situation is not good, and I was afraid of all those developments. At this moment, Percy is not ready.

"We need the players who are ready, not only physically, but also mentally. Those two games, the first games of qualifiers are very important. You can’t make a mistake. Now you have to win those two games, and that’s the reason why I decided not to take Percy for those two games.”

Head-to-Head

This will be the sixth meeting between South Africa and Uganda across all competitions. Bafana boast of an unbeaten record against Cranes having recorded four wins and one draw.

The last meeting between the two teams ended in a 2-1 win in favour of the Bafana in an international friendly match played at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto in June 2021.
