Matchday 7

Crystal Palace v Manchester United

Selhurst Park
London, England

Kick-off is at 17h30

Manchester United travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday, September 11 looking for their fifth straight win in the Premier League for the first time since April 2021.

The Red Devils have been plagued by inconsistency in recent times and last recorded five wins on the spin towards the back-end of the 2020/21 campaign.

On that occasion, United beat Manchester City, West Ham, Brighton, Tottenham and Burnley in the midst of a 14-match unbeaten run as they went on to finish second in the league.

Erik ten Hag's side have recovered from a horror start, which saw them lose 2-1 to Albion and 4-0 at Brentford before going on to claim victories against Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal.

Sunday's 3-1 triumph over the Gunners lifted United to fifth in the standings, three points adrift of Mikel Arteta's table-toppers, and Ten Hag praised the mentality of his players to fight back after Bukayo Saka's equaliser.

"We saw a good team on the pitch, good team spirit. They were maybe not always good routines, but they fought and they recovered," the Dutchman said.

"Arsenal, of course, created chances but I think we also did. We scored great goals. We could have done things better but that will come - we are not that long together. When we get that we will be even more controlled.

"It will be hard work and there is still a lot of room for improvement. As you see, when the team gets a setback, they deal with it and they fight back. That's really good to see. I like this mentality."

The Eagles kept their first clean sheet of the campaign in a goalless draw with Newcastle at St James' Park on Saturday, which extended their winless run to three games.

However, Palace manager Patrick Vieira saw yet more positives on Tyneside to suggest that they can turn the corner after picking up just one win from their opening six matches.

"The positive is not conceding goals. We came here with a good idea to defend well and I think we did it. It was a challenging place to come and perform," the Frenchman said.

"We had our momentum, we had our chances. We didn't score but overall I'm pleased with the point we take today.

"I'm happy with what we've been producing game after game, less with the number of points we have. We have built something that will give us hope to win football matches."
