2022/23 UEFA Nations League
League A - Group 1
Matchday 5
France v Austria
Stade de France
Paris, France
Thursday, 22 September 2022
Kick-off is at 20h45
France will be seeking their first win in Group 1 when they host Austria on matchday 5 of the
UEFA Nations League at Stade de France on Thursday, September 22.
The world champions are bottom of the group after four games and suffered their second defeat of the campaign when they lost 1-0 to Croatia last time out.
Didier Deschamps' side had recorded back-to-back 1-1 draws against the Vatreni and Burschen prior to that, meaning they have collected just two points and trail group leaders Denmark by seven with two matches left to play.
Les Bleus are in real danger of being relegated to League B, but Deschamps is more concerned with getting his squad ready for the 2022 World Cup and has spoken about Paul Pogba's situation.

Pogba sustained a serious knee injury during pre-season training with Juventus, which has cast doubt on his participation at the tournament in Qatar.

"I know Paul well. He will do everything to recover as soon as possible, but he will only be called up if he is fit and competitive. But it's too early to say that today," Deschamps said in an interview with Telefoot.
Austria made the best possible start to life under Ralf Rangnick, having beaten Croatia 3-0 in Osijek on matchday 1, but they have picked up just one point from their next three games.

Rangnick will be looking to bounce back from their 2-0 loss to Denmark in Copenhagen on matchday 4 and insists staying in League A remains the priority.
"We scored four points in the first leg against both teams. If we can do that again, we would be very satisfied," the German said.

France - 12
Austria - 9
