Liverpool will welcome Leicester City to Anfield for their final match of 2017 on Saturday looking for all three points that could see the Reds end the year in one of the coveted top four spots in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp’s men swept aside Swansea City as they handed them a 5-0 hammering on Boxing Day for their fourth win from their last six games in the league since holding defending champions Chelsea to a respectable 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge at the end of November.
They have scored a whopping 21 goals in this period, conceding just 5 times as they continue their push for Champions League football once again next season. Summer-signing Mohamed Salah has really lit up the Premier League so far since his return to arguably the world’s toughest league. His 15 goals in just 20 league games sees him sit second in the race for the golden boot behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Claude Puel’s honeymoon period at Leicester City is well and truly over. After a run of four consecutive victories, they have now gone four without a win in all competitions after defeats home defeats to Crystal Palace in the league and to Manchester City in the league cup were followed up by an impressive draw against Manchester United before falling to defeat once more on their trip to Watford. One thing is certain though. The Foxes and 2015/16 champions will end 2017 in the top half of the table regardless of Saturday’s result against the Reds. Star of that title-winning show, Riyadh Mahrez, is seemingly creeping back to his brilliant best with 6 goals and 5 assists to his name already this season.

The corresponding fixture last season ended 4-1 to the hosts, Roberto Firmino scoring twice as Claudio Ranieiri’s side saw their early title defence go up in smoke.
