Mike De Kock's Horse Racing Picks: HWB Greyville

Betway Ambassador Mike de Kock has entered four runners for the Turffontein meeting on the inside track, scheduled for Saturday, and one for Sunday’s turf meeting at HWB Greyville. He has also filed comments for the stable’s runners at Turffontein next Tuesday.

Turffontein, Saturday:

Race 5, 2600m:
“This is a slightly weaker field than the one Kadizora raced in over 2000m last week. She was plugging away late, doing some good work, and I fancy she has a chance in a small field. She has won over the course and distance before and should make further improvement. Mambo Come Tesio was withdrawn from the race won by Raiseahallelujah two weeks ago, and that was also a stronger field of stayers. He has the stamina, also has a win to show at course and distance. With him, what you see is what you get, but with only seven runners going to post I’d be loathe to ignore him. It’s that kind of race, a bit of a minefield for exotic punters.”

Race 7, 1450m:
“Sea Anemone
is a very useful filly, we know that. If she can run to her best form, which includes a close place to Beating Wings and a win over Vix Princess, she’ll be right there at the finish. The question is, will she produce her best, and I can’t answer that with confidence because she has disappointed us on occasion. But her form shows that she was drawn wide in two of her last four starts and she has an inside draw this time. She also enjoys the inside track. I make her a runner, don’t leave her out.”

Race 8, 1600m:
“I don’t really like tipping them after a Maiden win. Fireburst was an impressive winner of her Maiden recently and has a handy weight here, but the form of her win looks suspect. The second horse, Glamorous Lady, looked a blinder at the Vaal on Thursday, but was beaten in a moderate field. So things don’t stack up so far. Fireburst will have to show that she’s progressive enough. Being at the bottom of the weight she bears watching, but considering the early form pointers I can’t recommend her with confidence.”

HWB Greyville, Sunday:

Race 4, 1800m:
“Flying Hafla
just needed her last run, she acquitted herself well in fourth and will enjoy the extra 200m. She had Paul Lafferty’s runner Got The Fever ahead of her when they were beaten by Warrior Royale and there shouldn’t be much in it again. I think our filly has a winning chance.”

Turffontein Tuesday:

Race 7, 1450m:
“Platina Princess
has gone off the boil. Her two starts after a break have been below par. She is capable of much better, her rating is slowly dropping and we’re hoping that she’ll give us a better run here. I think her rating needs to come down a few points more, however.”

Race 8, 1450m:
“Two useful fillies in Say It Loud and Oxalis Gold, both with scope and doing well at home. Say It Out wasn’t ridden out in the closing stages last time, would have finished closer, and Oxalis Gold needed her run back. Both of them can be in the money here.”

Banker material, HWB Greyville Sunday:

Race 6, 1200m:
If you watch the replay of Formagear’s win over Dean Kannemeyer-trained Mr Master Starter on 6 October, you’ll agree that the runner-up looks about ready to win again, He hasn’t seen the winners box in over 800 days, but his merit rating has dropped, he faces weaker opposition and his record shows three wins over the course and distance.
