India v South Africa

South Africa must quickly get over the disappointment of their Twenty20 International series loss to India when the two teams meet in the first ODI at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Thursday, October 6.

The Proteas won the third and final T20I in Indore on Wednesday by 49 runs, although they lost the series 2-1 - their first defeat to the Men in Blue on the subcontinent.

Mark Boucher's side will now turn attention to the 50-over format as they target back-to-back series wins against the Indians, having beaten them 3-0 in South Africa earlier this year.

Quinton de Kock was named player of the series on that occasion after scoring 229 runs in his three innings, including one century and one half-century.

The wicketkeeper-batter helped SA to victory on Wednesday with 68 from 43 balls as he put on a 90-run second-wicket partnership with Rilee Rossouw, who scored an unbeaten 100.

Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma said we will take confidence from their consolation victory over India, having executed their plans much better this time around.

"Win like this is big for our confidence. Can take a lot from this game," Bavuma said in his post-match interview. "If we look back, in the first game, our batting didn't click. We didn't adapt to the conditions.

"In the second game, we had plans that we didn't execute. Today, we were a lot clearer in terms of the plans and what we were trying to do."

Shikhar Dhawan will lead India in the ODI series as white-ball captain Rohit Sharma will be rested along with the vast majority of the T20I World Cup squad.

However, Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Ravi Bishnoi and Mohammed Siraj will feature against the South Africans before joining up with their World Cup-bound team-mates afterwards.

Rohit Sharma admits there is still room for improvement, especially in the bowling department after SA posted 227 for three in their allotted 20 over.

"As a team, we said it at the beginning no matter what happens about the result, there's always room for improvement. Even if we do well in all three departments, want to keep getting better," Rohit said.

"Areas of concerns, we have to look at our bowling, what more options we can find in the powerplay, middle and death. We were playing two quality sides, have to go back and see what better we can do."
