Manchester City have a chance to return to the Premier League summit, if only briefly, when they travel to a resurgent Leicester on Saturday, October 29.

The Citizens bounced back from their first defeat of the season as they beat Brighton 3-1 last Saturday to close within two points of league leaders Arsenal.

Erling Haaland continued his remarkable start to life in England's top flight with a brace to take his tally for the campaign to 17 goals from just 11 appearances.

City manager Pep Guardiola is backing Haaland to break the record for goals in a Premier League season, which is held by Allan Shearer and Andy Cole, who scored 34 times in 1994 and 1995 respectively.

"You don't have to be a genius. If he continues with this rhythm, the average every game he is going to break the record," Guardiola declared.

"He is happy when the team win and is not when we don't win. All the strikers I have seen in my career like Samuel Eto'o, David Villa, Lionel Messi, [Robert] Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Sergio Aguero have an incredible ambition to score a lot of goals. That's normal. It has to be there."

The pressure has eased somewhat on Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers after a 4-0 victory at Wolves on Sunday extended their unbeaten run in the league to three games.

The East Midlands outfit had gone winless in their opening seven outings, but three wins from their last five encounters has lifted Rodgers' side up to 16th place, two points above the relegation zone.

Jamie Vardy registered his first goal of the season in the rout of Wolves - a milestone as he became the first player to reach a century of goals in the top flight after turning 30.

Rodgers hailed another resilient display from his team as they kept a third consecutive clean sheet to emerge from a challenging start to proceedings.

"Absolutely delighted, outstanding performance in a pressure game," the Ulsterman said. "We showed real moments of quality, all four goals were fantastic play.

"It is our fourth clean sheet in five games, that is where it starts. Fundamentally, you have to defend well.

"It is a very honest group that had a difficult start and it's been a challenge. But we are defending better, showing that resilience and when we have the ball the quality is there."
