2022/23 UEFA Champions League

Group stage
Matchday 4

AC Milan v Chelsea

San Siro
Milan, Italy
Tuesday, 11 October 2022
Kick-off is at 21h00

Chelsea will look to keep the momentum going in the UEFA Champions League when they take on AC Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday, October 11.

Graham Potter picked up his first European win as Blues head coach on Wednesday as his side beat the Rossoneri 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on matchday 3.

Goals from Wesley Fofana (24'), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (56') and Reece James (62') handed the English giants a comfortable victory, which lifted them up to second place in Group E on four points.

Potter admits the return leg in Milan will prove a different challenge for his players, but is relishing the prospect of playing at the home of the Italian champions.

"We're looking forward to going to the San Siro, I am that's for sure. It's a fantastic place to play football," he said in the post-match press conference.

"You saw the away support here - they were very loud and got behind the team so I can imagine what it's going to be like at the San Siro. We'll have to be strong and be ready for that. It's going to be a huge challenge for us."

Stefano Pioli's team had been unbeaten in the group prior to their trip to London after drawing 1-1 with RB Salzburg and running out 3-1 victors against Dinamo Zagreb.

Pioli confessed Milan committed far too many errors and didn't use the ball well enough to cause the west Londoners problems.

"We did too little, although we started off well," he told Milan TV. "We made too many mistakes and wrong choices thereby conceding too many chances to our opponents, including the counterattacks and the spaces in their favour.

"The game became difficult. There were in which we could have been more aggressive but I don't believe our main problem was controlling the pitch without the ball.

"We didn't play well tonight with the ball. We didn't move the ball well, although we had our chances to do so given that the pressure applied by Chelsea wasn't so strong and continuous.

"We went long when it wasn't on and when you do that, you end up being stretched. As a result, we weren't able to adequately handle both phases of play."
