2024/25 English Premier League
Matchday 10
Liverpool v Brighton & Hove Albion
Anfield
Liverpool, England
Saturday, 2 November 2024
Kick-off is at 17h00

Liverpool will target a return to winning ways in the Premier League when improving Brighton visit Anfield on Saturday, November 2.

The Reds were knocked off top spot after drawing 2-2 with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on October 27, with Manchester City climbing to the summit courtesy of a 1-0 win over Southampton one day prior.

Arne Slot's side saw a four-match winning streak come to an end and they trail the Citizens by one point in second place, while the Gunners are a further four adrift in third position.

The Seagulls squandered a two-goal lead as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Wolves at the Amex on October 26, having missed out on the opportunity to make it three wins in a row.

Albion dropped down to sixth in the standings after seeing Chelsea go above them up to fifth spot with a 2-1 victory over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge on October 27.

Fabian Hurzeler's side are above Nottingham Forest (7th) on goal difference and they have a three-point cushion to Tottenham (9th) and Brentford (10th).

In team news, The hosts must do without Alisson (thigh) and Harvey Elliott (ankle) once more, but Diogo Jota (chest), Federico Chiesa and Conor Bradley could come back into contention. The visitors have a whole host of injuries to contend with as Adam Webster, James Milner (both thigh), Matt O'Riley, Joao Pedro (both ankle) and Solly March (knee) are all ruled out, while Yankuba Minteh (groin), Lewis Dunk (calf) and Jack Hinshelwood (muscular) are rated doubtful.

Slot felt that Arsenal were the first team to play better than the Reds this season, but was happy that his players picked themselves up in the second half to come away from North London with a point.

"Arsenal were the first team better than us. They deserved to be one up at half-time," the Dutchman told Sky Sports.

"We had less to recover and prepare for this game and if I look at how strong we were in the second half, that pleased me and most being two times down."

Hurzeler labelled Brighton's performance against the Old Gold as immature and has urged his players to learn from the experience after they conceded two goals in the final two minutes.

"With the second goal, I had the feeling that we were too passive, that we were going to have this consequence. We conceded an easy set-piece goal, then we had the chance to make the third goal and they made the equaliser from the transition," the German said.

"We have to quickly learn from this because we were not mature enough. We were not professional enough to win games like this. I know it's still a young team with a lot of potential, but we have to learn quick out of experiences like this."
