Uganda are also undefeated in their last two home matches having recorded two successive victories over Congo-Brazzaville and South Sudan at the Mandela National Stadium.

Meanwhile, South Africa played to a 1-1 draw with Congo-Brazzaville away on 15 October and they are undefeated in their last 22 matches across all competitions in regulation time.

Bafana Bafana are also undefeated in their last eight away matches having registered three victories and five draws as the away side.

Team News

Striker John Paul Dembe, who plays for Swedish side BK Hacken, has been included in the Uganda squad after he scored six goals at the recent East Africa Under-20 tournament and the Cranes have no injury concerns.

Meanwhile, Cyprus-based winger Mihlali Mayambela has withdrawn from the South Africa squad due to injury and was replaced by Devin Titus of Stellenbosch FC, while Burnley's Lyle Foster also misses out as he is injured.

Quotes

“These two games are very important. We can qualify for AFCON in Uganda if we win, but if we don’t, then we have to do it against South Sudan at home. So, these games are very important,” South Africa coach Hugo Broos said.

“It’s not only about defence when you concede but the whole team. I hope that we can have that strength again in our ways of playing because we’ll need it in the game against Uganda."

Head-to-Head

This will be the seventh meeting between South Africa and Uganda across all competitions. Bafana boast of an unbeaten record against Cranes having recorded four wins and two draws.

The last meeting between the two teams ended in a 2-2 draw in the 2025 AFCON qualifier played at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on 6 September.
