Red Bull Racing's Sergio Perez is hopeful that Max Verstappen will keep his word by aiding him at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday, November 20.

The Mexican questioned his team-mate's loyalty after the Brazilian Grand Prix when Verstappen ignored team orders by refusing to give up sixth place.

Perez had led Ferrari's Charles Leclerc by five points in the drivers' standings going into the penultimate race of the year but they are now tied on 290 points following the drama in Sao Paulo.

'Checo' let Verstappen pass him on lap 67 with the understanding that the position would be returned if the Dutchman was unable to take P5 from Alpine's Fernando Alonso.

Meanwhile, Leclerc faced a similar scenario with the Prancing Horse, who changed their minds over team orders as Carlos Sainz was allowed to finish ahead of him.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner apologised to Perez afterwards, saying: "I'm sorry for that Checo," to which he replied: "He [Verstappen] shows who he really is."

The 32-yuear-old later explained his remark on Sky Sports, saying: "I was told to let him by, that I was going to get back the position.

"Maybe you should ask him about it... after all I've done for him, it's a bit disappointing to be honest. I am really surprised."

Both Helmut Marko and Verstappen have since insisted that the team will help Perez in his bid to finish second in the World Championship.
