2024/25 Betway Premiership
Matchday 25
AmaZulu v Richards Bay
King Zwelithini Stadium
Umlazi, South Africa
Friday, 4 April 2025
Kick-off is at 19:30
AmaZulu will be looking to bounce back in the
Betway Premiership when they challenge Richards Bay in a KZN derby to be played at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Friday evening.
Coach Arthur Zwane will be under a bit of pressure to ensure that Usuthu avoid a fourth successive defeat after they registered their 12
th league defeat of the campaign against Chippa United.
In a move to strengthen their technical team following the departure of Vusimuzi Vilakazi in February, AmaZulu appointed Tshepo Mahao and Mini Khoza who was already part of the group as first team analysts.
Richards Bay will also be seeking redemption in this clash as they fell 3-1 to Polokwane City last weekend. The Natal Rich Boyz are in the danger zone and according to their coach Papi Zothwane, they’re doing everything to avoid the relegation playoffs.
"One thing with our team, we know the experience of playing in the play-offs – it's not a nice thing, I don't think any team wants to be part of those play-offs," said Zothwane.
"With the team we have, we don't have stars in the team, we have hard workers, and I think the effort, not only from the players, but everyone in the setup, we are working extremely hard to make sure we don't go to the play-offs.
"Everyone that watches Richards Bay now can see the efforts that have been put in by all the players that we don't want to go there – and it's not easy, we have not left the relegation zone, we still have 10 games to play.
"But we are pushing extremely hard that, at least, when we get to the last five games, we can breathe and say, 'We can't go to the play-offs,' but it's going to be a mountain to climb to do that, and for us it's go to Magesi and stretch the gap a little bit to give us a breather,” he concluded.
With AmaZulu veteran defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele’s contract expiring at the end of June, reports state that the KZN team are keen on offering him a one-year contract with an additional option to extend for another year.
“The club has made it clear they want to keep Rama for as long as they can and that’s why they have apparently offered him another one-year with another year option. They believe he still has what it takes to help the team,” said a source according to Soccer Laduma.
“So for now, they are believed to have shown their intentions to keep him longer at the club.”
