Matchday 31
Atletico Madrid v Real Valladolid

Kick-off is at 21h00

Atletico Madrid will be looking to build on only their second win in five matches when they lock horns with Real Valladolid at the Estadio Metropolitano on Monday, April 14.

Los Colchoneros snapped a three-game winless run in La Liga as they beat Sevilla 2-1 on April 6 to keep their title hopes alive.

Diego Simeone's side capitalised on slip-ups from the top two after league leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid both drew on matchday 30, allowing Atletico to make up some ground on them.

Atleti, who have the joint-best defensive record in the league alongside Athletic Bilbao, trail Los Blancos by three points and are a further four behind the Blaugrana in third place.

Valladolid are destined for the drop as they've won just four of their opening 30 fixtures and find themselves rooted to the foot of the table.

Alvaro Rubio's side crashed to a heavy 4-0 defeat against Getafe on April 6 which extended their winless streak to 11 games and left them 14 points adrift of safety.

Simeone believes there are more twists to come in the race for the coveted crown and is urging his players to keep pushing until the very end in a bid to overhaul their title rivals.

"I keep insisting that we have to think about ourselves, keep growing, keep improving, keep growing," the Argentine said.

"Is it going to be difficult? Of course! Are we going to struggle? Sure! But we're going to keep insisting, trying, fighting to the end because that is who we are."

Rubio admitted they just weren't able to recover after conceding to Getafe in the opening minute and felt the dismissal of Mario Martin on the stroke of half-time killed any chance of a comeback.

"It was a disappointment," the Spaniard lamented. "The first goal was a huge blow, the team fell, and the next two came very quickly.

"You get to half-time and the sending-off changes everything. We wanted to stop the blow, be more united, organised, and grow from there."
