2022/23 English Premier League

Matchday 16

Newcastle United v Chelsea

St James' Park
Newcastle upon Tyne, England
Saturday, 12 November 2022
Kick-off is at 19h30

Newcastle will be targeting a fifth Premier League win on the spin when an out-of-form Chelsea arrive at St James' Park on Saturday, November 12.

The Magpies are soaring at the moment and occupy third position, seven points behind league leaders Arsenal after embarking on a nine-match unbeaten run.

Last Sunday's 4-1 victory over Southampton on the south coast made it eight goals in their last two games, with Miguel Almiron starring once more for Eddie Howe's side.

Almiron opened the scoring in the 35th minute to take his tally for the season to eight goals and Howe praised the impact made by the Paraguayan.

"I think that was one of Almiron's best performances. He stood out for us. His running and energy were evident," the 44-year-old coach said.

"His finish was clinical. I was really pleased with him again and it adds to the high number of quality goals he's scored for us."

The honeymoon period is over for Blues head coach Graham Potter, whose promising start to his tenure at Stamford Bridge has been halted by back-to-back defeats against Brighton and the Gunners.

Potter had gone unbeaten in his first five matches at the helm, but he's now winless in four outings following a 1-0 loss to the north Londoners last Sunday.

The former Seagulls boss acknowledged that the better team won on the day, citing a lack of quality in the final third and confidence as key factors in their defeat to Mikel Arteta's table toppers.

"The boys gave everything," he said. "We got into a few situations into the box but we missed that last little bit and overall Arsenal deserved to win. The goal is disappointing and over the course of the game, we don't have too many complaints at the result.

"We lacked quality but the effort was there and we were beaten by the better team today. We huffed and puffed but you could see the difference between the two teams in terms of confidence, structure and work together.

"We're not in a fantastic moment as we speak and in the end Arsenal deserved to win because they were the better team overall. We have to take that and use it as motivation to improve."
