Joachim B. Hansen will be hoping to get his career back on track at the Joburg Open after a difficult 12 months.

The Dane won the tournament in Johannesburg two years ago to claim his first DP World Tour title and he found further success in November 2021 by triumphing at the Aviv Dubai Championship.

However, Hansen has struggled with his game since then and most recently missed the cut at the Andalucia Masters, the Mallorca Golf Open and the Portugal Masters.

The 32-year-old admits he has been on a downward spiral mentally since the Steyn City Championship in March, where he shot an 18 under-par 270 to finish tied for fifth.

"It has turned mentally. It started well in the Spring and I had some good laps. I achieved fifth place in South Africa in March," he told DR Sporten.

"It's as if there is a snowball of anxiety that builds bigger and bigger in competitions. I don't have problems in training, but I can't do it in battle.

"There is some anxiety in my head that has built up. It is rooted in fear of failure and of what others think - that I'm bad and can't figure out how to play golf."
