Saturday's Champions Day meeting at
Turffontein features an excellent 12-race programme with some good betting opportunities. A massive R5-million is expected to flow into the Pick 6 carryover pool and you can take your bets via the Betway TAB tote portal, for which you’ll get your 6% tax refunded.
De Kock Racing has a busy schedule with six runners at Turffontein, two runners at Friday evening’s twilight meeting meeting at HWB Greyville, and a further four runners on Sunday at HWB Scottsville.
Betway Ambassador Mike de Kock provided his previews for all three meetings:
HWB Greyville, Friday:
Race 3, 1200m: “
Khethiwe’s Destiny comes off multiple infections that had to clear up after her last run on January, which was not a bad effort in a decent field of sprinters. She is doing quite well, a nice filly and we’re expecting a good run.”
Race 7, 140m: “
Oxalis Gold won a very good race on the Highveld last time and she’s come on more from that run, she is in a good space and warrants consideration although this is a competitive race against the colts. We left her in this race because she drew badly in the fillies feature.”
Turffontein Saturday:
Race 1, 1600m: “
Whispering Death made the expected improvement to win his second start quite well and he looks the part at home. He’s a nice type of horse, we’re not sure of the opposition, but he should like the extra 200m and is a big runner.”
Race 3, 1160m: “We have high expectations of
Esteemed. I’m glad we got last week’s race into him, it served as a good gallop and pulled up well. He needed the experience, returned impressively and has come on in the few days since. He should go close.”
Race 6, 1600m: “There are seven chances in a seven-horse field and our pair of fillies are very well.
White Pearl gives of her best, she has been good to us and her owners and can’t be ignored, has a money chance.
Spumante Dolce had an interrupted prep after she was found with mucus in her trachea following the SA Classic, which has not been ideal. She is, however, in a very good space and working well. We have every reason to expect a good run from her, we know she is a filly of high quality.”
Race 11, 1400m: “
Gimmeanotherchance ran really well last time, he improved on his first run after his wind surgery and should now be at this peak in his third run after a rest. It’s a tough Grade 2 line-up, but he should be competitive and is one to include.”
Race 12, 2850: “
Marauding Horde seems to be the handicapper’s pet hate. He is coming into his own as a stayer, but has been punished nine points for his last two runs, so he has no easy task here. He’ll be doing his best, we’re hoping he can be a factor as he is in good shape at home.”
HWB Scottsville, Sunday:
Race 1, 1000m: “
I’m A Fireball has shown us ability at home. We haven’t been able to prepare our two-year-olds like we’ve wanted to, due to wet tracks and no grass track available, so he comes into his debut short of where we want him to be. But he should have a chance despite that.”
Race 7:
Fireburst and
Flying Hafla are average type fillies, both honest and will win again, but I can get over-confident about them. Eachway prospects.”
Race 10: “
Ingqwele surprised us with a very nice second in a Progress Plate over 1200m last time and while he needs further we’ve decided to give him another sprint on the strength of that, and on his good work at home. With a repeat of his last run, he’ll have a shout.”
