Matchday 25
Real Madrid v RCD Espanyol
Estadio Santiago Bernabéu
Madrid, Spain
Saturday, 11 March 2023
Kick-off is at 15h00
Real Madrid will lock horns with RCD Espanyol in a
Spanish La Liga match at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu on March 11.
Current Form
The Whites were held to a 0-0 draw by Real Betis away on March 5 and they are now undefeated in their last four matches in the league.
Madrid are also unbeaten in their last 15 matches at home having recorded five draws and 10 victories at the iconic Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
While Espanyol succumbed to a 2-1 loss to Real Valladolid away on March 5 as their two-match unbeaten run in La Liga came to an end.
The White and Blues have lost two of their last three matches on the road, while the other game ended in a win as the away side.
What Is At Stake
Madrid are still placed second on the league standings and they cannot afford to drop more points as they are nine points behind leaders FC Barcelona.
The defending champions will be keen to claim a win over Espanyol and hope that Barca drop points when they face Athletic Bilbao on March 12.
On the other hand, Espanyol are placed 12th on the league standings and they will be hoping to secure a victory which would consolidate their place in the middle of the table.
Team News
Ferland Mendy and David Alaba are the two players who are on Madrid's injury-list and Carlo Ancelotti's side have no suspension concerns.
Meanwhile, Espanyol also have no suspension concerns, but they have two players on their injury-list namely, Keidi Bare and Adria Pedrosa.
Key Players
One of the best players in the world, Karim Benzema, who was frustrated by the Betis defence in the goalless draw, will be determined to score and inspire Madrid to a win.
While Espanyol will pin their hopes of defeating Madrid on José Luis Sanmartín Mato (Joselu) who is the team's top scorer in La Liga this season with 11 goals.

Quotes
"It was an open game and that's how we wanted it to be. We lacked effectiveness up front," Ancelotti said after their clash with Betis.
"In the end, in the last thirty minutes we created more chances, but at the moment we lack efficiency. We make one more pass than we should, too many one-twos...
"Today we could've scored because we had three or four clear chances, but in the last three games the statistic is self-evident: we've only scored one goal."
Head-to-Head
Real claimed a 3-1 win over Espanyol in their last meeting in La Liga with the match taking place at the RCDE Stadium on 28 August 2022.
Therefore, the Whites are undefeated in their last two league matches against the Whites and Blues having recorded two successive wins.
