The
2021 US Open is scheduled to be played at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California, the USA between 17 and 20 June.
This will be the 121st US Open tournament and it is on the official schedule of the PGA Tour, Japan Golf Tour and European Tour.
Since 1898 the competition has been 72 holes of stroke play (4 rounds on an 18-hole course), with the winner being the player with the lowest total number of strokes.
As of 2020, the U.S. Open awards a $12.5 million purse, the largest of all four major championships.

Bryson DeChambeau is the defending champion having won the last year's tournament and he became the sixth successive American to win the competition.
Nicknamed the Scientist, DeChambeau's six-under par total gave him a six stroke victory over his compatriot Matthew Wolff.

Recent US Open winners (2011-2019) Dustin Johnson, Martin Kayme, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth and Gary Woodland will be part of this year's field.
While recent winners of the Masters' Tournament (2017–2021) Sergio García, Hideki Matsuyama and Patrick Reed will also tee off, but Tiger Woods is not expected to play.

A limited number of fans will be permitted to attend this year's US Open at Torrey Pines according to the tournament's senior managing director John Bodenhamer.
"Last year, we missed the energy that fans bring to our U.S. Open championships," Bodenhamer said.
"We are grateful to our local and state health and safety officials in California to be in a position to welcome some fans back this year to witness the greatest players in the world contending for these prestigious championships.
"While working to maintain the health and safety of all involved."
Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus are the most decorated players in the history of the US Open having won four titles each.
