UCI World Tour
Stage race (Grand Tour)
From Spain to France
1–23 July 2023
Tadej Pogačar will be determined to reclaim the
Tour de France title and beat his main rival Jonas Vingegaard in the process.
What to know about Pogačar
The UAE Team Emirates cyclist is considered among the best professional cyclists in the world having won the Tour de France twice.
Pogačar has been compared to legendary all-round cyclists such as Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, and Fausto Coppi.
Why Pogačar is among the favourites
The 2020 Olympic Games bronze medallist won stage six of the 2023 Tour de France from Tarbes to Cauterets-Cambasque.
Pogačar beat Vingegaard of Jumbo Visma to the finishing line - boosting his ambitions of winning the competition for the third time.
The Slovenian star is currently placed second on the General classification (Yellow Jersey) standings behind Vingegaard.
Quotes
“We tried to make the final climb hard," Pogačar said after stage 15 of the 2023 Tour de France on July 16.
"I felt that Jonas is super good and I knew that I cannot really drop him; the climb was too easy.
“We tried to improvise in the end and Adam took some seconds. He is coming back into the GC, close to the podium. So that is also super nice.”
