No.2 seed Rafael Nadal will attempt to reach his third Grand Slam final of 2022 when he locks horns with Nick Kyrgios at the
Wimbledon semi-finals on Friday, July 8.
The Spaniard, who won the Australian Open and the French Open this year, had to come from behind twice to beat No.11 seed Taylor Fritz in five sets (3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6) in the quarter-finals.
Nadal skipped the tournament last year, but made it to the last four in 2018 and 2019, where he lost to arch-rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer respectively.
The 35-year-old is looking to match his performances of 2010, 2011, 2017 and 2019, when he reached the final in three of the four major events.
Nadal paid tribute to the crowd for helping him push through the pain barrier against Fritz on Wednesday, admitting he was struggling with an abdominal problem.
"For a lot of moments I was thinking I would not be able to finish the match but the crowd, the energy, thanks for that," the world No.4 said after the match.
"I honestly enjoy a lot playing these kind of matches in front of you guys. I can't thank you enough for the support."
