2021-22 Premier League season
13 August 2021 – 22 May 2022
The
2021-22 Premier League season will get underway in mid-August, with champions Manchester City looking to defend their title amidst challenges from the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, while the North London duo of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will also hope to have their say in where the silverware ends up.
As ever, the meetings between ‘Big Six’ clubs will be highlights of the campaign, the first of which arrives on the opening weekend and sees Tottenham host Man City on the afternoon of Sunday 15 August. The clash has been given even more potential spice in recent days with news that the Citizens are hoping to sign Spurs captain and talisman Harry Kane.

The player himself has shrugged off the speculation while playing for England at Euro 2020: “It doesn’t really bother me about the outside noise,” said Kane. “When I’m here I’m with the boys, I try to help the boys, be a leader in the team. I need to get to know the boys, see what makes certain players tick, and the younger lads, helping them. So I feel like I’ve got enough on my plate to worry about anything outside of England.”
Chelsea, after their triumph in the UEFA Champions League last season, could be City’s biggest threat in the title race and they will face early tests on the road against Arsenal and Liverpool on August 22 and 28 respectively, while just under a month later the Blues will have their chance to host Pep Guardiola’s side at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool, after a poor defence of their title last season, will be aiming for a return to peak form under Jurgen Klopp and will target their home clash against Man City on the weekend of 2 October as a chance to lay down a marker. The Reds will once again look to their gifted front three of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah for inspiration.
As for Manchester United, they will be looking to build on last season’s runners-up finish in the Premier League, but will need to defeat fellow heavyweights to convince that they can truly challenge for a first league title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement way back in 2013. Their key examination dates will be on the weekend of October 23 and November 6 when they welcome Man City and Liverpool respectively to Old Trafford.
