South Africa's under-23 men's football team will get the country's 2020 Olympic Games campaign underway in Tokyo, Japan on July 22.
Coach David Notoane's side is set to take on tournament hosts Japan in their opening Group A game at the Tokyo Stadium.
This will be the second meeting between the two sides at the Olympics with Japan having claimed a 2-1 win over South Africa at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
South Africa will then square off with France in their second Group A match at the Saitama Stadium on July 25 and this will be the first-ever meeting between the two nations in the Olympics.
Chad le Clos will start his bid to win Olympic gold medals on July 25 when he competes in the men’s 200m freestyle heats.
The Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games champion will then take part in the men’s 200m butterfly heats on July 26.
"I've put in the work and I have a lot of support around the world and in South Africa," Le Clos said ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.
"And that's going to give me the extra 5-10% I need at the Olympics to hopefully bring maximum medals. I'm not going to make any predictions. I don't know what the results are going to be."
Meanwhile, the women’s
artistic gymnastics qualifications are set to begin on July 25 and South African duo of
Naveen Daries and Caitlin Rooskrantz of South Africa will be in action.
Rooskrantz won the uneven bars events at the 2019 Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Challenge event in Hungary and Daries took the bronze medal in the all-around at the 2021 African Championships.
South Africa's men's hockey will take on two-time Olympic gold medallist Great Britan in Pool B on July 24, before facing the Netherlands on July 26.
While the women's side will face off with Ireland in a Pool A match on July 24 and their second match will be against Great Britain on July 25.
Lastly,
South Africa's men's sevens rugby team will be in action on July 26 as they start their Pool C campaign against Ireland.
The team scooped bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games and they will be determined to reach the final in Tokyo.
