The
2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens is scheduled to be held at AT&T Park in San Francisco, United States of America (U.S.A) this weekend.
This will be the second edition of the competition and 16 women’s teams are expected to participate in this year's tournament.
The teams will be competing for the World Cup Sevens trophy with the tournament having been established in 2009.
The first round of the Championship Cup will see all the 16 teams competing in the Round of 16 with the winners advancing to the quarter-finals.
South Africa are heading into this competition placed 12th on the women's national teams world rankings.
The Paul Delport's side is set to take on Russia in a Round of 16 encounter on Friday. South Africa managed to reach the semi-finals in 2009.
They are hoping to go all the way and win their first World Cup Sevens Womens' title.
New Zealand are the defending champions and they are expected to mount a serious challenge for the the trophy.
Australia are coming into this global tournament as one of the favorites having clinched the inaugural World Cup Sevens title in 2009.
Canada, who surprised many by going all the way to the final in 2013 where they lost to New Zealand, will be looking to reach the final once again and win the trophy.
Tournament hosts, U.S.A managed to advance to the semi-finals in 2009 and 2013. They will eager to go one step further by reaching the final.
