2019/20 Premier League
Round 23
18-19 January
Liverpool and Manchester United will renew one of England’s fiercest rivalries when they meet at Anfield on Sunday 19 January 2020, kick-off at 18:30. The match is one of 10 spread across the weekend of 18-19 January for the 23
rd round of the 2019/20
Premier League season.
Liverpool continued their incredible form in the Premier League with a 1-0 away win at Tottenham Hotspur this past weekend, with Roberto Firmino netting the decisive goal. The Reds hold a massive 14-point lead over second-placed Manchester City.
“There are a lot of tough games to be played and the next game is especially tough. We have to make sure we are ready for that,” said manager Jurgen Klopp. “Today was difficult and we made it a bit too difficult for ourselves but that is not to forget or underestimate the quality of the other team.”
Manchester United, meanwhile, showed a return to form with their 4-0 thrashing of bottom-of-the-log Norwich City, with goals from Marcus Rashford (two), Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.
"We are in all competitions. We are still in the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup, we're fifth in the league, still challenging. We've improved the position from last season, we've got Europa League. They (the supporters) have just got to believe me when I say I feel we are doing loads of good things behind the scene,” said an under-pressure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
In head-to-head stats, Liverpool and Man United have met in 231 matches. The Red Devils have claimed 88 wins compared to 76 for the Reds, while 67 games have been drawn.
When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at Old Trafford in October 2019, they played out a 1-1 draw. Marcus Rashford’s first-half goal was cancelled out by a late strike from Adam Lallana.
