2018 Hungarian Grand Prix
Formula 1, Round 12
29 July 2018 – 15h10 CAT
Hungaroring, Mogyorod
The last race in Germany on July 22 saw Lewis Hamilton put in an incredible performance to come from 14th on the grid and claim victory ahead of his teammate Valtteri Bottas.
With Sebastian Vettel crashing out from the lead of the race in difficult conditions, Hamilton took full advantage thanks to some luck, good strategy and a brilliant drive.
The result not only saw the British pilot reclaim the lead of the Drivers’ Championship (he moved to 188 points, opening a 17-point advantage over Vettel), but also put Mercedes back on top in the race for the Constructors’ Championship (the Silver Arrows have 310 points compared to Ferrari’s 302).

Vettel will be itching to bounce back at the Hungaroring this weekend and the German will have good memories of the circuit in Mogyorod: he led home teammate Kimi Raikkonen for a Ferrari 1-2 last year, and also claimed victory for the ‘Scuderia’ back in 2015.
However, Hamilton has won five times at the Hungary venue (the most of any driver) and the tight, twisty circuit should cancel out the Ferrari’s new-found power advantage.
Yet this also means the Red Bulls will be competitive, with Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen both talking up their chances of a win. While the former had a race to forget at Hockenheim last time out (he retired due to a mechanical problem), the latter finished a creditable fourth and will hope to carry that form into this weekend.
Lower down the pack, Force India will hope to keep themselves in the race to be the ‘best of the rest’ behind the ‘big three’ after they enjoyed a strong outing in Germany, while McLaren and Fernando Alonso will hope for better fortune at a track which should suit their car - the Spaniard set the fastest lap in last year’s Hungarian GP
