2019 Formula 1 season
Round 16, Russian Grand Prix
Sochi Autodrom, Sochi
Sunday 29 September
Ferrari will be out to continue their recent revival at this weekend's
Russian Grand Prix in Sochi.
The Italian team have won the three most recent races of the season with Sebastian Vettel reigning supreme in the most recent Grand Prix hosted in Singapore last weekend.
Teammate Charles Leclerc accounted for the two preceding first-placed finishes in Belgium and Italy respectively as Ferrari ignited their revival.
Vettel, who ended his 392-day run without a win in Singapore isn't getting carried away just yet and the four-time champion still believes that Mercedes are the favourites heading into this weekend's race.
“Certainly it gave us a lot of confidence, because Singapore was not expected to be that strong,” Vettel said.
“The new parts worked really well and seemed to give us an edge, so hopefully we can come here and be equally strong in terms of fighting for pole and hopefully in the race as well. I definitely believe there are things we can, and must, do better, but it was a good step.”
He continued: "There are a lot of positives, other than the result [in Singapore], going forwards. I think overall it is definitely heading in the right direction, but it would be wrong to think that now because we’ve won on two different types of tracks, that we can win everywhere.
“I think Mercedes still have been in a position to win every race in a way this year, so they are the ones to beat and they are the benchmark."
Mercedes have dominated the Russian Grand Prix over the last five years since it's introduction to the Formula 1 circuit in 2014, with Lewis Hamilton coming out on top on three previous occasions.
