The Pharaohs started their group stage (Group D) campaign with a defeat against Nigeria before they registered wins over Guinea-Bissau and Sudan.
Carols Quieroz's men then faced big guns in the knockout phase namely; Ivory Coast, Morocco and Cameroon - winning all three matches in either in extra time or on penalties.
"Each time, the Egyptian team are favourites to win the tournament. Tonight we played the usual game and we managed to reach the final," Egypt assistant coach Diaa Elsayed said after their win over Cameroon.
"I would like to thank our coach Carlos Queiroz who was expelled during the game as well as all the players who made the difference with their ardour and grit throughout the tournament. We are happy, it's true, but we have not yet reached the final objective: the coronation.
"I can also add that our background is also due to the presence of one of the great players in our training, namely Mohamed Salah. A very essential player in our team and who remains the centrepiece for us."
Egypt are making a record-extending 10th appearance in the AFCON final and they are the most decorated nation in the history of the tournament having won seven titles.
Their last appearance in the final was in 2017 as they lost 2-1 to Cameroon in Gabon, while the last time they won the trophy was in 2010 following a 1-0 victory over Ghana in Angola.
This will be the 13th meeting between Senegal and Egypt across all competitions.
Egypt have dominated this rivalry having registered six wins compared to Senegal's four, while two matches ended in a draw.
The last meeting between Senegal and Egypt was on 15 November 2014.
Senegal emerged 1-0 winners over Egypt in the 2015 AFCON qualifier which was played at the Cairo International Stadium in Cairo.
