Both teams have been able to right wrongs in recent weeks and both head into this coming weekend's round of fixtures in touching distance of the league leaders, occupying sixth and seventh spot on the standings respectively.
United maintained their 100 percent record on the road with a 3-1 win over West Ham United last time out. While they have won all five away trips this season, coming from behind to secure victory in each match, the Red Devils have conjured just four points on home soil.
"Of course, we are very, very happy with the away form. I think the home form is decent, we are becoming more and more consistent and we are coping better with games like this. When you are 1-0, 2-0 down the boys still believe and that character is important," United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said.
"Away from home we have character and belief. Five times on the bounce to come from behind and win is exceptional."
City followed a 5-0 thumping of Burnley with a 2-0 win over Fulham and unlike their crosstown rivals, the Cityzens have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Uefa Champions League and will be afforded the chance to rest players in preparation of the Manchester derby this week.
"We are in a good moment right now, I would say," said City manager Pep Guardiola.
"We are better than one month ago but that is normal. Without preparation, without time, it's normal what happened.
"What's important is that we are not far away from the top of the league and already qualified for the next round [of the Champions League]. This is important. Now we want to continue being there."

The corresponding fixture last season ended in a 2-0 win for the hosts with Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay on target at Old Trafford.
