2024-25 NBA Regular Season
Atlanta Hawks v Memphis Grizzlies
State Farm Arena
Atlanta, Georgia
Sunday 22 December 2024
Tip-off at 02:30
Memphis Grizzlies will be hoping to continue their recent run of fine form when they lock horns with Atlanta Hawks at the State Farm Arena on the morning of Sunday, December 22.
The Grizzlies have improved their record in the Western Conference to 18-9 after winning eight of their last 10 games to move up to second place, three games behind Oklahoma City Thunder.
Taylor Jenkins' team saw a four-game winning streak come to an end with a 116-110 loss to Los Angeles Lakers on December 16 as the highest-scoring offense in the
NBA never got going.
Memphis trailed from start to finish and only four players hit double figures as Jaren Jackson Jr. led the scoring with 25 points.
Grizzlies rookie Zach Edey returned from a 12-game injury layoff to register his third double-double against the Lakers, earning praise from Jenkins.
"He did a great job playing with force, [along with his] eight offensive rebounds, some finishes around the rim," Jenkins said. "We've got to continue to help him out with the pick-and-roll defense.
"There were a lot of positive strides, but I like the force he played with. It changes how their rim protection can be and then, obviously, him creating second-chance opportunities for us was big."
The Hawks made a slow start to the season, but they recovered somewhat towards the end of November, winning six games on the spin.
However, a 110-102 defeat to Milwaukee Bucks on December 14 ended their NBA Cup hopes as Quin Snyder's team missed on a date with Oklahoma City Thunder in the final.
Trae Young posted a game-high 35 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists against the Bucks and Snyder was pleased to see the point guard get over his early-game nerves.
"We can dig in on Trae whether it's his nerves, I'm more worried about him defending and pushing the ball in transition, and those are the things that he did," Snyder said.
"There was a point in the game when he could feel the game and for him to get us good shots, and sometimes good shots are shots that you can rebound, and I thought the offensive glass was a big part of the game for us.
"Trae controlling the game through a certain stretch, but also during the majority of the game, really setting people up and pushing the ball, and that's what I want to see him do."
