2023/24 Italian Serie A
Matchday 2
SS Lazio v Genoa CFC
Stadio Olimpico
Rome, Italy
Sunday, 27 August 2023
Kick-off is at 20h45 CAT
SS Lazio will go head to head with Genoa CFC in an
Italian Serie A match at the Stadio Olimpico on August 27.
Current Form
The Eagles suffered a 2-1 defeat to US Lecce away on August 19 as their four-match unbeaten run in Serie A came to an end.
However, Lazio are undefeated in their last three home matches in the Italian top flight having recorded two wins and one draw at the Stadio Olimpico.
Meanwhile, Genoa suffered a 4-1 defeat to ACF Fiorentina at home on August 19 as they extended their winless run to three matches in the Serie A.
The Red and Blues are also enduring a 17-match winless run on the road having registered 13 defeats and eight draws as the visitors.
Team News
Andrea Anderson is the only player on Napoli's injury list at the moment with the Brazil-born attacking midfielder scheduled to return to action later this month.
Genoa, on the other hand, will also be without Marko Pajac who looks set to make his return to action in September this year.
Quotes
"Everything happened in the final minutes, but it happened all in the second half," Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri said after his side's defeat to Lecce.
"We played an unacceptable second half, as a presumptuous team who thought they had already solved the game and when you don't have the right humility the first thing that fails you is the defensive phase.
"In the second half we did the defensive phase with only the four defenders and we found ourselves at the mercy of the opponents. The rest of the team looked back at the defensive phase and these are the consequences."
Head-to-Head
Lazio hammered Genoa 4-1 away in their last meeting in Serie A which was on 10 April 2022 at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.
The win extended the Eagles' unbeaten run against the Red and Blues to six games in the Italian top flight.
Lazio have recorded five wins and one draw during their unbeaten run.
