Manny Pacquiao v Yordenis Ugas
WBA (Super) Welterweight Championship
T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, United States
22 August 2021
Main card starts at 03:00 CAT
Manny Pacquiao will chase a fourth straight win when he faces Yordenis Ugas in a bout for the
WBA (Super) Welterweight Championship at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, United States on the morning of Sunday 22 August 2021.
Pacquiao, the only eight-division world champion in boxing history, has not been inside the ring competitively since a slit decision win over Keith Thurman in July 2019. This bout was scheduled to be against IBF and WBC Welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr, but he was forced to withdraw due to an eye injury.
Spence said he was excited about the fight but "there was no way I could fight with my eye in that condition".

"First and foremost, I ask everyone to join me in praying for a full and complete recovery for Errol Spence Jr," Pacquiao said. "Thank God his physical examination discovered his eye condition before he suffered any further damage. I have agreed to fight Yordenis Ugas on August 21 [22 in CAT] for the WBA Welterweight Super Championship. The proper way and the only way to win a world title is inside the ring."

The 42-year-old ‘PacMan’ held the WBA title after his win over Thurman two years ago, but was stripped of it in January due to inactivity. This allowed Ugas to claim the Super title after his Regular title – claimed with a win over Abel Ramos in September last year – was elevated following Pacquiao’s relinquishment.

The 35-year-old Ugas, who hails from Santiago de Cuba, is an Olympic Bronze Medallist from Beijing 2008 and was crowned the Amateur Lightweight World Champion in 2005. He is also chasing a fourth straight win and looking to join Jeff Horn, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley, Erik Morales, Medgoen Singsurat and Rustico Torrecampo as fighters who have defeated Pacquiao.
"The ones who made fun of me when Pacquiao came back and got into a fight with Spence. I also want to gift you a good fight,” said Ugas.
