2024-25 Spanish La Liga
Matchday 30
Villarreal v Athletic Bilbao

Kick-off is at 21h00

Athletic Bilbao will attempt to cement their place in La Liga's top four when they take on UEFA Champions League-chasing Villarreal at La Ceramica on Sunday, April 6 in the late kick-off.

The Lions currently occupy fourth place after going unbeaten in their last three matches and they could yet overtake Atletico Madrid into third, with the two teams separated by just four points.

A 0-0 draw with Osasuna on March 30 meant that Ernesto Valverde's side had only collected eight points from their last five outings, although it was still better than the seven managed by Los Colchoneros during that same period.

However, the Basque outfit face fierce competition from the Yellow Submarine, who trail them by six points in fifth spot with a game in hand.

Marcelino's side arrested a two-match losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Getafe on March 30 to stay ahead of Real Betis (6th) on goal difference.

Marcelino expressed pride in his players for a hard-working performance against the Azulones, admitting the win was the response they needed after the two defeats against Alaves and Real Madrid before the international break.

"We achieved a well-deserved victory thanks to the good work of all the players. I'm proud of their work," the Spaniard declared.

"Today we have confirmed that we are on the right track. It's very good news after the international break and two defeats."

Valverde felt it was two points dropped against Los Rojillos as his team missed out on the chance to capitalise on Atletico's failure to beat Espanyol.

"We wanted all three points, but we'll take this point and move on," the Spaniard said. "You have to take advantage. There's not a lot of difference between all the teams.

"We're lucky to be in the position we're in. We have to keep going and on Sunday we'll be playing Villarreal."
