Following Manchester City’s 2-0 derby day victory over rivals Manchester United on Wednesday - a result which sent Pep Guardiola’s chargers back to the summit of the English Premier League table with just three matches left to play –
Liverpool will have the chance to regain control of the title race when they welcome already-relegated Huddersfield Town to Anfield on Friday.
Only three points would see Jurgen Klopp’s men leapfrog City with the Sky Blues, who are one point clear with a far superior goal-difference, only set to tackle a tricky Burnley side on Sunday.
The Reds extended their winning streak to nine matches in all competitions with a hard-fought 2-0 triumph at Cardiff City last time out. James Milner denied fellow team-mate Mo Salah the opportunity to score from the penalty spot during the encounter – a goal which, if scored, would have sent the Egyptian to the top of this season’s goal-scoring charts ahead of Sergio Aguero. Golden Boot winner in 2017/18 Salah has scored 19 goals and contributed a further seven assists so far this campaign.

Huddersfield Town are already preparing for life back in the Championship following two seasons plying their trade in England’s top-flight. Manager Jan Siewart has been unable to steer the sinking ship away from the dreaded fate of relegation. Their failure to find the back of the net has been their real down-fall – they are the leagues lowest scorers with just 20 goals to their name from their 35 matches played while only Fulham (76) have conceded more goals than the Terriers (69).

The Yorkshire club have not beaten the Merseysiders since a 1-0 home win in 1959 while their last taste of success at Anfield came three years prior, in the Old Division Two.
Liverpool are now unbeaten in their last 13 matches in all competitions against Huddersfield Town, winning ten and drawing just three.
Their first-ever Premier League meeting and first league affair in over 35 years between the pair ended 3-0 to the hosts Liverpool, in the corresponding fixture last season.
In the reverse fixture back in October, Salah scored the only goal of the game – his second goal in three appearances against Huddersfield.
