2020-21 DStv Premiership
20-21 February 2021
Kaizer Chiefs will be desperate to end their winless run in the
2020-21 DStv Premiership season when they host SuperSport United at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
There are a total of five league matches scheduled for this weekend with SuperSport's trip to Soweto the headline fixture.
Chiefs are winless in four league outings following a 2-1 loss to AmaZulu in midweek. The Amakhosi dropped down to ninth as a result and head coach Gavin Hunt expressed his concern regarding Itumeleng Khune's lack of form in the aftermath.
Khune, widely regarded as South Africa's best ever goalkeeper, has conceded 12 of Chiefs' 19 league goals this season and looks a shadow of the shot-stopper that made him Mzansi's finest.
"Ja, it's not the place nor the forum to talk, sorry to talk like that, but it's a big concern – yes – since I've been here," said Hunt about the shortcomings of Khune and the club's goalkeeping department as a whole.
"So ja, it's something we just have to keep working on and hopefully we can improve there but it's certainly... I think it's a bit more than that, that you've mentioned, but it's something that's a concern – a big concern."
As a result, Daniel Akpeyi is liking to be recalled back into the starting XI as Chiefs aim to beat SuperSport for the first time in the league since December 2018.
Matsatsantsa will move back within two points of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who are not in action this weekend, with victory in Soweto. Leading marksman Bradley Grobler hasn't scored in three matches for second-placed SuperSport, but has a good record against Chiefs and has scored in his last three matches against the Glamour Boys.
Chippa United will play at home for the first time since November when they host TS Galaxy on Saturday as Chilli Boys head coach Dan Malesela aims to complete a league double over his former employers, following their 1-0 win over the Rockets last month.
There will be a Limpopo derby with Baroka FC at home to Black Leopards in Polokwane. Lidoda Duvha sit bottom of the league standings having won just twice all season.
On Sunday, north will meet south as Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila host a Stellenbosch FC side eager to get back to winning ways while Cape Town City welcome Swallows FC.
Swallows are yet to lose this season after 15 league matches following a 0-0 draw at home to AmaZulu on Valentine's Day. The Dube Birds last lost a match in March 2020 (while still campaigning in the GladAfrica Championship) and are aiming to reach a full calendar year without defeat.
"It's two points dropped as we played at home. But we are still unbeaten. If you can't win you must not lose. We take a point. It will be amazing to go the whole year without losing a game," said Swallows head coach Brandon Truter.
City lost back-to-back games in Gauteng but know a thing or two about breaking unbeaten records. The Cityzens beat Golden Arrows 4-2 in their most recent home fixture to put an end to the KwaZulu Natal side's 11-game run without defeat.
