2026 World Cup qualifiers
CAF Group C
Matchday 6
Benin v South Africa
Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium
Abidjan, Ivory Coast
Tuesday, 25 March 2025
Kick-off is at 18:00
South Africa will be aiming to stay at the top of Group C in the
World Cup qualifiers as they travel to lock horns with Benin at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Ivory Coast on Tuesday evening.
Bafana Bafana are in impeccable form and are coming off the back of a 2-0 win against Lesotho, which catapulted them to first position in their group.
20-year-old forward Relebohile Mofokeng made headlines in his first full debut for the national team in the clash against Likuena, and head coach Hugo Broos gave his thoughts on the youngster’s performance.
“I cannot tell anyone that they are a regular [starter] in the Bafana Bafana squad. There are 23 players and that’s the first,” said Broos.
“Secondly, I said before that as a coach you have to see when is the right moment to bring a player and I think this game was the right game for ‘Rele’.
“He played a very good game and this is what we need. When you put a young guy in the team as a coach, you have to always think he can succeed.”
Meanwhile, Benin head coach Gernot Rohr shared what it would mean for his side to grab a win against Bafana Bafana on Tuesday.
Rohr expressed that he would love the opportunity to defeat the formidable team, acknowledging that the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations bronze-medallists are the favourites.
“If we beat South Africa on Tuesday in Abidjan, we will move to 11 points and go top of the group, which would be fantastic,” he said.
“As such, we are going to give everything and try to cause an upset against South Africa, who on paper, are the favourites.”
