For the shrewd and ambitious bettor, the big money lies in ‘
Accas’ (as they are known in the UK in Australia), ‘Parlays’ (USA) or ‘Multiples’, as they are known elsewhere. In this article we’ll explain what this is, suggest a good way of starting your route to winning a big ‘Acca’ and look at some massive strikes landed by ‘Acca’ punters over the years.
An Accumulator (acca) is a type of bet that consists of at least more than one selection, for example a Double, Treble, Yankee, or (as offered in the UK), a ‘Heinz’ (57 bets in six events) or a ‘Canadian’ (5 selections and 26 bets). All of these selections are added together to create one overall wager. In order to win the full accumulator bet, all the selections within the best have to be successful.
There are a number of different kinds of multiple bets, but they are all variations on the same basic idea: that bettors make several selections at the same time and, in most cases, each and every one must win in order to secure a return.
Bettors who are to be successful with multiple bets should be very knowledgeable about the sports they are betting on and the competitors who are participating. But, all the same, the beauty of multiples is that you can combine your knowledge of racing and sports to build a nice multiple bet, for example,
Country Grammer to win the Dubai World Cup horse race, onto France to win the Rugby World Cup, onto England to win the Soccer World Cup. (This bet, before Saturday, would have been offered at odds of around 160-1!)

The best way for a better to start the multiple betting experience is to take two horses to ‘Place’ at any race meeting. The return won’t make you rich, but it’s a start. Then try again with one horse to win and one horse to place. Go on to include a sport of choice by taking a treble, and progress that way. Always stick with yourt ‘gut’. If you feel confident, play the horse or team of your choice. If you are not confident, or something worries you, look for another horse or another sports match to build your multiples upon.
Bettors lose multiple bets far more often than they win, but a single well-played Acca can nullify all losses and make a life-changing difference.
Here are some big Multiple and Acca wins over the years:
