2020-21 DStv Premiership

26-30 May 2021

Mamelodi Sundowns will clinch the 2020-21 DStv Premiership title with victory over Tshwane rivals SuperSport United on Wednesday.

The Brazilians will be in action twice this week with a trip to Dobsonville Stadium to face Swallows FC scheduled for Saturday.

Sundowns take a seven-point lead into this week's round of league fixtures and are on the cusp of winning a fourth straight top-flight crown.

"For us it is always important to focus on our process," said Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi. "Our intention is to achieve our desired targets in the last four matches and it just happens that this game can decide the championship.

"We are not putting any pressure on the players to look at this game as a title decider because we still want the same energy in all our remaining matches this season. For us it is important to win every match that we play and to try and achieve our targets.

"The truth of the matter is that SuperSport returned to winning ways, they are showing good signs and are a very decent team. Bradley Grobler is still the top goalscorer, [Sipho] Mbule has had a wonderful season so we know very well that we aren't playing a team that will be a pushover."

Kaizer Chiefs will also be in action on Wednesday, days after booking their spot in the Caf Champions League semi-finals. The Amakhosi make the long journey to Thohoyandou to take on Black Leopards fresh off a taxing trip to Tanzania.

"I think we did well as a team in Tanzania and now we are off to Thohoyandou," said Chiefs midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo. "We are prepared and looking forward to the game.

"Our position on the log is not good for a team like Kaizer Chiefs but we just need to win our remaining games to make sure we finish on a high.

"It is far, but we just need to be prepared mentally. It was very nice in Tanzania, the atmosphere, and we wish that in South Africa we will have fans back in the stadium soon.

"We know that they [Leopards] will come at us because they need points, but so do we. It will be a tough game and we need to be prepared for that," he added.

Mathematically, Chiefs could still finish in 15th spot which would result in them having to take part in the relegation play-offs, but they will put those fears to bed with victory in the Limpopo province. Defeat for Lidoda Duvha, who are rooted to the bottom of the league standings, would all but seal their fate.

Orlando Pirates will also be in action twice this week and will be eager to finish the season strongly following a 4-0 loss to Raja Casablanca over the weekend - which ended their Caf Confederation Cup hopes.

The Buccaneers face second-placed AmaZulu on Thursday before taking aim at TS Galaxy on Sunday.
