England v South Africa

Wednesday, 27 July 2022
South Africa will attempt to go level with England in head-to-head encounters when they meet in the first
Twenty20 International at the County Ground on Wednesday, July 27.
England have won 11 of the 22 matches between the two teams, although the Proteas beat them in the T20 World Cup last year to close within one victory of matching that tally.
Mark Boucher's side won by 10 runs on that occasion after they restricted England to 179 for eight in 20 overs, having posted 189 for two first up with Rassie van der Dussen scoring an uneaten 94 runs.
The 2022 Royal London Series ended all-square after the third One-Day International at Headingley was rained out as the tourists were denied their first-ever series win on English soil.
Jos Buttler had hoped to record his first series win since replacing the retired Eoin Morgan as captain after starting his reign with a 2-1 defeat to India earlier this month.
Buttler admitted to being frustrated with England's intense schedule which sees them play 12 games in the space of just 24 days and has left the squad with very little time to train.
"It's tough. A lot of the time around training is when you do your best work, away from the pressures of the game, having good conversations and having a feel for where the group is at," he said.
"And not just always in game mode, preparing for guys on the day. To get the highest standard of cricket possible, you need to prepare properly. Hopefully that's something we can look at going forward.
"As a new captain, just having that time to bed in and do that work around your players and with your coaches. That's been a frustration to be truthfully honest - it would be nice to have that time to do the work.
"But we don't, so you just have to adapt and find the best way. It's been a good challenge."
Quinton de Kock was left stranded on 92 not out in the third ODI as heavy downpours resulted in the series decider being abandoned after 27.4 overs.

The Proteas wicketkeeper-batter, who registered the 29th half-century of his career in Leeds on Sunday, is hoping to make an impact for the team in the three-match T20 series.
"It's nice getting out there scoring runs for the guys. We've had a little bit of time off from our last [ODI] series," he said.
"It was nice just to get out and spend some time in the middle. It's always satisfying - whether I'm going at a high strike rate or a low strike - as long as I can just help out the team, it's always satisfying."
