Matthieu Pavon will be determined to become the first non-American golfer to win back-to-back

What to know about Pavon
The French golfer, whose father is former footballer Michel Pavon, played in the Alps Tour after turning professional in 2013 and his first season (2017) on the European Tour was moderately successful as he finished 49th in the Order of Merit.
Pavon has won six professional tournaments including one PGA Tour event and his best performance in a golf major came at the 2024 US Open where he finished fifth, while also finishing 12th at the 2024 Masters Tournament.

The 2023 Acciona Open de España winner has been inactive since he competed in 2025 The Sentry in Hawaii where he finished in the top 50 - finishing 48th.
Pavon is currently placed 36th on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), and his best OWGR is 20th.
Why Pavon is among the favourites
The 32-year-old will be returning to the Torrey Pines Golf Course where he was crowned Farmers Insurance Open champion - winning by one stroke over Nicolai Højgaard in 2024.
With this victory, Pavon became the first Frenchman to win on the PGA Tour since Arnaud Massy won the 1907 Open Championship (later recognised as a PGA Tour victory).
This makes the two-time French Tour winner one of the favourites to win this weekend's Farmers Insurance Open and emulate Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and JC Snead who won back-to-back titles.

"It is big for our country. I hope it will inspire a lot of people because coming from an amateur player who is 800 in the world to a PGA Tour winner is pretty big.
